This Mini Muddler-inspired pattern is a direct tribute to Fran Betters, based on a fly I purchased from his Adirondack Sport Shop on trip to the Ausable with my father, and fished as a young man with success. Unlike a traditional muddler minnow, this version is not simply a downsized replica – it takes on a life of its own.

Tied with dark brown deer hair, copper ribbing and flash, brown turkey, and clipped hackle reminiscent of a caddis, the result is an irresistibly buggy morsel that mimics a wide variety of aquatic life. Its versatility makes it a true fish catcher, capable of fooling trout in diverse conditions.
